Why yes, that “Moana” performance at the Oscars made literally everyone cry
The newest Disney Princess, Moana, took to the stage during the 89th Academy Awards to sing a hella powerful song. And now admit it: You totally cried listening to Auli’i Cravalho belt out “How Far I’ll Go.” Don’t worry, because it sure looks like everyone else cried, too.
Moana is the story about a fierce and feisty Polynesian princess — the first Polynesian princess for Disney — trying to find her place in the world. Though she’s accepted her place as the future ruler of her village, she can’t help but feel that the ocean is calling to her — and she answers it.
Not only does Auli’i voice the titular Moana, but she sings her songs as well. So, she’s a double-threat Disney Princess and that is damn impressive. It should come as no surprise that she completely brought down the Oscar house singing “How Far I’ll Go” during the telecast.

Lin-Manuel Miranda (who is up for an Oscar for writing the song) introduced the performance via one of his trademark raps, and then it was all Auli’i, and it was nothing short of absolutely beautiful. How many chills did you get listening to it? Like, a thousand?
