Twitter just showered Misty Copeland with roses, because she’s #PrincipalMisty

It’s been an amazing week for our favorite superstar ballerina and all-around awesome person, Misty Copeland.

First, she made history as the only African-American dancer to take on the lead role of Odette/Odile in American Ballet Theatre’s production of Swan Lake, one of the most important and well-known ballets in the company’s repertoire. And she pulled it off. In a big way. Huge.

But she didn’t stop there, because after all, this is Misty Copeland we’re talking about. As the ballet world’s first crossover star since Mikhail Baryshnikov ,Misty’s not just queen of the dance world, she’s queen of EVERYTHING. She’s become a role model and symbol of perseverance over poverty, body shaming and racial stereotypes. So naturally, making history once in a week wasn’t enough. Six days later, our girl did it again.

On Tuesday, Misty Copeland was promoted to principal dancer (the highest possible rank within a professional dance company) at American Ballet Theatre, making her the very first female African-American principal in ABT’s 75-year history. We bow down to you, Misty! So do the good people at Under Armour…

Last year, Under Armour signed Misty as one of the stars of their powerful I Will What I Want campaign. ICYMI, you can see her inspiring Under Armour commercial here. (Seriously, if you haven’t seen it, go watch it. Right now. We’ll wait.)

So natch, her sponsors were super pumped (like the rest of us!) when they heard about her promotion. So pumped that they started a Twitter campaign with a special hashtag, #PrincipalMisty, to recognize her amazing, historic accomplishment. The more tweets sent out tagged #PrincipalMisty, the more flowers Under Armour promised to shower on the newly crowned principal dancer.

The response wasn’t just overwhelming, it was also quite beautiful. People all over the world tweeted using #PrincipalMisty, with many of them attaching inspiring quotes from her autobiography and interviews, or incredibly gorgeous photos of her doing what she does best. Dancing.

Faced with a mountain of gorgeous #PrincipalMisty tweets, what did Under Armour do? They took a page from Misty Copeland’s book and kicked things up to a whole new level. They filled an entire SUV with roses and had them delivered to her at the Metropolitan Opera House. (Because who doesn’t love getting a flower delivery at work? Amirite?)

In case you’re wondering how many flowers an SUV can hold, the answer is this many…

Copies of some of the #PrincipalMisty tweets were even attached to the bouquets! We just love this. Kind words make even the most sweet-smelling bouquets even sweeter.

Judging from the pics, Misty was thrilled with the (literal) truckload of flowers.

Enjoy, Queen Misty! Everything’s coming up roses, and we couldn’t be happier for you!
