Stay calm, people! Misty Copeland just joined the cast of Disney’s “The Nutcracker”
Christmas came early this year, you guys, because we just got the best news ever—our favorite ballerina and all-around awesome person Misty Copeland will be in Disney’s new live-action take on The Nutcracker.
We already knew that The Nutcracker and the Four Realms, an adaptation of E.T.A. Hoffman’s classic story, The Nutcracker and the Mouse King is in the works, but there was still the looming question over who would be prima ballerina.
Variety reports that Misty will star as the lead prima ballerina in the film’s only dance sequence. And, if any of her past performances are an indication, this is going to be good. Really good.
In case you don’t remember from the Christmases of your childhood, the story follows little Marie and the magical story of how her toy nutcracker comes to life. The story was famously turned into a ballet by Tchaikovsky (we dare you to get “The Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies” out of your head, ever).
Marie and the Nutcracker go on a series of adventures and fight the evil mouse king. Though, we can see why Disney wanted to change the last half of the title, unless they’re casting Mickey in a much darker role than we’re used to seeing him.
In any case, we can’t wait to see Misty in all of her ballerina glory when the film hits the silver screen and we think the casting is en pointe, if we do say so ourselves.
