The O.C. star Mischa Barton is joining The Hills reboot, and Chrismukkah came early this year
Marissa Cooper is making her way to Los Angeles. The O.C. alum Mischa Barton is officially joining The Hills reboot. Barton will join Brody Jenner, Audrina Patridge, Whitney Port, Heidi Montag, and Spencer Pratt on MTV’s The Hills: New Beginnings, according to Page Six. An insider told the publication, “She was around back in the day and went to all the clubs. She could make for good TV.” Honestly, this is the tween mashup our 2000s hearts deserve.
In August, MTV announced that the 2006 reality series would be returning for a reboot. The Hills followed the trials and tribulations of young adults living in palm tree-lined Los Angeles. The series starred Lauren Conrad, Heidi Montag, Audrina Patridge, Whitney Port, and Spencer Pratt. The show served as a Lauren Conrad spin-off of 2004’s Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County, which mainly followed Kristin Cavallari.
Barton rose to fame in the 2003 teen drama series The O.C., which followed troubled teen Ryan (Ben McKenzie) as he navigated the wealthy, upper-class world of Newport Beach after being taken in by a lawyer (Peter Gallagher) and his family. Barton played the wealthy wild child Marissa Cooper, whose relationship with Ryan was turbulent at best. Marissa Cooper was killed off of the series at the end of the third season.
Barton’s last stint on television was as a contestant on ABC’s Dancing With the Stars during its 22nd season.
The Hills: New Beginnings will premiere in 2019. In the meantime, we’ll be listening to a mashup of Phantom Planet’s “California” and Natasha Bedingfield’s “Unwritten” on loop.
