Here’s what we know about ‘The Mindy Project’ on Hulu

It is a horrible tragedy when one of our favorite TV shows gets canceled, and sadly that’s what happened to The Mindy Project. We were ready and prepared to cry for YEARS following its cancellation, but thankfully, a beautiful television fairy godmother swooped in to save the day. Hulu picked up The Mindy Project and thanks to them we’re going to get 26 BRAND NEW EPISODES.

That’s not the only thing to celebrate. This past weekend at the Television Critics Association, Mindy Kaling and friends spilled all sorts of amazing details for when the show picks back up. And it picks back up SOON. Like, way sooner than you probably realized. Mindy‘s fourth season will start streaming on September 15th which is one month away, you guys. Here’s what you need to know before that happens.

No binging required

What has become the norm for most online shows isn’t going to be the same for Mindy. We’re going to get one episode a week. As Kaling explained, “Maybe it’s old-fashioned, but I like a Christmas episode that airs in December” (and that totally means we’re getting a Christmas episode this year).

It’ll still be the same Mindy we know and love

Just because Mindy‘s on a brand new platform doesn’t mean she’s going to change her ways. “We made a conscious effort to keep it similar in tone,” says Ike Barinholtz a writer on the show who also plays everyone’s favorite nurse, Morgan. He also added that he believes the audience for Mindy is made up of, “Young women who are going to run the world someday.” RIGHT ON.

But, Mindy‘s going to try out some new things

Being on Hulu means that Mindy can get away with a few more things now that she’s not on network television. But don’t expect everything to suddenly be different. Mindy‘s just going to push the boundaries a little bit more. Also, the run times of each episode might be a little bit longer than 22-mintes (which is standard for most television sitcoms).

Mindy Lahiri is still very pregnant

Season 4 will pick up right where Season 3 left off. Mindy’s pregnant, and Danny’s just arrived in India to meet Mindy’s parents. Kaling joked that, “[The writers and I] always thought it was funny that an OB/GYN would have an accidental pregnancy.”

The show will continue to have amazing guests

The first episode of the season will feature not just one amazing guest, but two: Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Freida Pinto gust star. JGL plays Mindy’s husband (just go with it) and Pinto will play a Mindy doppelgänger who’s dating Danny.

Kaling is thrilled to be back

Just like us, Kaling feared the worst when the show was canceled. But then Hulu saved the day. As she told the crowd, “I’m so grateful to Hulu for giving us this opportunity. I just want to make the show better than it’s ever been . . . It went from being, ‘oh, we’re never going to do the show again’ to ‘we’re going to have more work than we’ve ever had.’”

So once again. The Mindy Project. Hulu. September 15th. It’s a Tuesday. BE THERE.
