Mindy Kaling opens up about her love life being “a little more mysterious”
As the creator, writer, executive producer, and star of The Mindy Project, Mindy Kaling wears her heart on her sleeve when it comes to creating her characters. But when it comes to her love life, Kaling keeps things under wraps, and we totally respect her reason for doing so. She isn’t a completely open book, and that’s one of the many reasons why we adore her so very much.
In the September issue of American Airline’s magazine, American Way, the mom-to-be discussed her personal life and her decision to keep things mysterious when it comes to relationships.
“My professional life is the only thing that I feel I have a lot of control over — romantic stuff is a little bit more mysterious, Kaling told American Way. “I think a lot of women respond to that."
It’s important to Kaling to be aware of the affect her career might have on anyone she’s in a relationship with.
"On TV, we don’t see the discomfort that a lot of husbands feel when their wives have a really demanding full-time job," she added. "But in almost every one of my married friends’ relationships, this is the biggest single cause of stress.
To the untrained eye, it may seem like Kaling is basically the same person as Mindy Lahiri — her character on the show, but there are parts of her personality in all of the characters. “I think people forget when you create a show, you’re creating different characters that have different aspects of your personality,” she said, adding that since she plays one of these characters, people tend to think she identifies most with her.
The Mindy Project will be coming to an end for good this fall with its 10-episode, sixth and final season. We’ll miss everything about it, but mostly we’ll miss Kaling and her genius mind.
