Mindy Kaling quotes for every human and every situation
It’s Mindy Kaling’s birthday today, and we have sooo much to celebrate! Not only is Mindy one of our major life heroes, but she’s our collective BFF, our wise guru on everything related to comedy, fashion, and strength. Her book, Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? changed our lives, and we’re positive her forthcoming novel, Why Not Me? will be just as spectacular, just as relatable and just as swoon-worthy.
And Mindy has had quite a year —not only did she reveal the cover and publishing date for her new memoir, but she announced a new book project she’ll be working on with her friend, business partner, and ex-boyfriend, BJ Novak. AND, while The Mindy Project faced cancelation on FOX, Hulu took no time at all to snatch the show up (and smartly so). And last but certainly not least, Mindy voiced Disgust in the new Pixar film, Inside Out, and made us laugh until eternity, because of course she did. Happy birthday, Mindy. You are a dazzling lady.
Plus, we just love you, girl. Mindy Kaling has always been an inspiration as an artist and a human being —she has consistently made the wonderful point that while she is being questioned about her confidence as a woman, a woman of color, and a woman of not 0-2 size clothing, her male contemporaries are being asked about their art. While Mindy owns up to the fact that she has become a sort of role model for “outsiders,” she says that she refuses to be one. She is an artist, and that is informed by her experience, but she defines herself. So the quotes below are words of wisdom from one worthy human being to another. Please never stop, Mindy; and keep the awesome coming.
For when you’re doubting yourself:
“Why the f*ck not me?” Should be your motto.
For when you’re doubting relationships:
Maybe the point is that any marriage is work, but you may as well pick work you like.
For the times you love yourself:
It’s so weird being my own role model.
And the times you don’t:
I’m constantly in a state of self improvement, but I don’t beat myself up over it.
For when you feel out of place:
I just want ambitious teenagers to know it is totally fine to be quiet, observant kids. Besides being a delight to your parents, you will find you have plenty of time later to catch up.
And when you feel totally lost:
If you don’t see a clear path for what you want, sometimes you have to make it yourself.
To remind yourself to listen to your brain:
My body is very attracted to your body, but when you speak my brain gets angry.
And also your heart:
I would like to be remembered as a great writer and a kind person.
