Mindy Kaling confirmed her baby girl’s name, and it’s straight out of a romantic comedy

The Mindy Project may be no more, but its creator and star is still bringing little bundles of joy into the world — just like her character on the show. Only this time, it’s Mindy Kaling’s own baby girl, and thanks to a precious Twitter exchange with Ava DuVernay, we know for sure that Baby Kaling’s name is just as cute as we’d heard it was. Welcome to the world, Katherine Kaling!

Katherine reportedly arrived on December 15th and after only a week on Earth, she’s already gained a celebrity following (not that we’d expect anything less). Kaling’s A Wrinkle in Time Director DuVernay posted her well wishes to the new mom and baby from “[Kaling’s] @AWrinkleinTime family” referring to the little one as Katherine, and Kaling was quick to respond with her thanks (and her plans to show Baby Katherine her new movie).

In other words, Katherine Kaling it officially is. According to People, Katherine’s middle name is Swati, a tribute to Kaling’s late mother who she lost the same day that she learned The Mindy Project had been picked up.

We first found out Mindy’s baby was on the way in July when Oprah casually dropped that Kaling had mentioned it to her. As Kaling told Ellen Degeneres on Ellen, if someone’s going to spill the beans about your pregnancy, Oprah’s probably the person you want doing it. We then found out Kaling was expecting a girl when another co-star of the actress, this time The Mindy Project‘s Ed Weeks, shared that she’d told the cast she was pregnant with a daughter. DuVernay revealing Katherine’s name on Twitter, and Kaling low-key confirming it, is keeping the colleague-tells-Mindy-verifies streak alive.

The sweet new addition to Kaling’s family is the latest highlight in a big year for the actress/writer/producer. Not only did she wrap up The Mindy Project, she has Wrinkle in the pipeline, as well as the devastatingly cool-looking Ocean’s 8, plus her upcoming Four Weddings and a Funeral reboot on Hulu. Again, just like Dr. Lahiri, the real-life Mindy can juggle it all.
