Mindy Kaling and Reese Witherspoon are total coworkers-turned-friends #goals

It’s a beautiful thing when coworkers become actual friends who actually converse outside of the office, and that’s exactly what appears to have happened between Mindy Kaling and Reese Witherspoon – well, erm, outside of the film set, anyway.

The pair, who have been filming A Wrinkle in Time together recently, appear to be having an absolute blast getting to know each other. And though they seem to be hitting their friendship stride just now, Kaling and Witherspoon’s relationship has actually been a long time coming.

Back in 2014, Kaling created a Christmas tradition with the invention of a Wreath Witherspoon, which was featured on The Mindy Project‘s Christmas special. Witherspoon later added a Kaling-inspired Wreath Witherspoon dress to her clothing line, Draper James, so we know they’ve been girl-crushing on each other for a while.

Mutual-admiration laid fertile ground for a blossoming Wither-ling (Ka-spoon?) friendship. Cut to the filming of Ava DuVernay’s A Wrinkle in Time, and their friendship has officially bloomed into a orchid. We love seeing these two love each other!

In a recent Instagram photo, Kaling hilariously demonstrated just how close the two have become by writing, “This is a beautiful orchid from @reesewitherspoon and all, but it’s blocking the hard-hitting questions of Wheel of Fortune.

We’ll say it again: #friendshipgoals!

Perhaps their true evolution from co-stars in a movie to super-close girlfriends happened in New Zealand, where they seemed to have had an absolute ball together.

Or was it in Hawaii?

Or maybe it all happened right on set back in Hollywood?

Wherever the magic happened, we’re here for it!

Kaling and Witherspoon’s friendship proves that coworkers (and Hollywood co-stars!) don’t have to be “fake friends” or bitter rivals, like Joan Crawford and Bette Davis in Ryan Murphy’s FX series, Feud: Bette and Joan. It’s 100% possible to work together and play together, and live your best life.

We hope you keep having a blast, ladies!
