Milo Ventimiglia almost played a different character in “This is Us”

Who would have thought a show about people sharing the same birthday would be such a hit with audiences? Well, a large part of the success of This is Us  has something to do with the relationship between Milo Ventimiglia’s Jack Pearson and Mandy Moore’s Rebecca.

You may be shocked to learn, for a brief moment in time, Milo actually considered playing a different character on the show. Can you imagine? We certainly can’t. But the actor recently confessed to considering the role of Kevin Pearson, Jack’s son.

At the recent ATX Television Festival in Austin, Entertainment Weekly editor Henry Goldblatt hit Milo up for a question. Did the actor immediately connect to Jack’s journey? Milo’s response was rather unexpected, saying:

“At first, I was like, ‘Should I be Kevin?’ Because I’m an actor. So I’m thinking, ‘Well, maybe, no, I’ll be the actor… But then, you know, I’d been a huge fan of not only Dan Fogelman but John Requa and Glenn Ficarra, and I knew the three of them together, and I believed in what they believed in me… When I dove into Jack, I found this instant connection to a man that felt incredibly familiar even though I don’t have kids and it just felt right.

Aw, we may have just melted a little.

According to Variety, Milo reportedly cried when he watched the scenes where William passes away and Kate’s emotional drum circle breakdown. For Milo, one of the best moments occurred when Jennifer Salke, NBC President, pulled the entire cast into her office. It was the best news ever: the show had been picked up for two more seasons!

Yay! We’re happy to know This is Us isn’t going away anytime soon. Time to stock up on tissues.
