A new survey revealed what millennials are *really* looking for in a relationship, and LOL same

Relationships have gone to the dogs, according to a new report. The survey, conducted by retailer Zulily, polled millennial pet owners to find out just how much they love their fur babies. It turns out they love them a lot (no surprise there) — but Zulily also discovered what millennials are looking for in a relationship.

Almost half (45%) of those surveyed admitted that if they started dating someone new, their pet’s “paws up” would matter more than their family’s thumbs up. Now, the survey didn’t say what would happen if a pet offered a “paws down” on a prospective date, but it’s safe to assume the person would probably be “busy” that day (busy Netflix and chilling with their cat, no doubt).

So daters, now that you know what millennials are looking for in a relationship, don’t forget to bring a treat if you’re going over to your new boo’s place for the first time.

Meanwhile, 42% of coupled-up millennial pet owners said that if given the choice, they would rather snuggle with their pet than their romantic partner. We can’t really argue with that. A pet’s cuddle is unconditional, so warm, and they usually don’t snore or crush you with their leg. They’re also not “expecting” something from a cuddle, you know? They just want to, literally, chill.

The survey asked some non-relationship questions, too, and made some interesting discoveries about millennials, pets, and full-time jobs. According to the report, 70% of millennials surveyed said they would take a pay cut if it meant they could bring their pets to work — including 21% who would take a pay cut of at least 20%. OMG!

This survey has definitely given us something to *paws* and reflect on. After all, dealing with some cat-itude is way easier to handle than confusing texts from the person you’re dating, right?
