It’s all about location, and Millennials may know that better than anyone.

In a recent study by TIME, research showed that Millennials are moving from the suburbs to big cities — but they may not be the ones you’re thinking of.

In fact, by and large, Millennials are avoiding some of the most populated cities in America in favor of smaller, less densely populated ones. Is this the Millennial migration? And where are they moving to?

One of the biggest factors in where Millennials are moving to is, unsurprisingly, cost. Cost of living has made some of the most expensive cities less popular, while smaller urban locations hold far greater appeal for young adults. Additionally, Millennials are moving to cities that have strong public transit and a lot of local culture.

Virginia comes out as one of the most popular states, with three cities on the list (including the top two). And while it may be a cultural hub, the high cost of living had New York City just barely making the list at number 25. Here’s the rundown on which cities Millennials are moving to, complete with the surrounding urban area. Do you suddenly feel the urge to start packing?
