Miley Cyrus once thought that she would marry Nick Jonas, and let’s unpack this with some Jonas Brothers songs

Because it’s the holidays, and because you’re most likely sitting in your childhood bedroom in your parents’ suburban home, we thought we’d resurface some news nostalgia from the early aughts. Like, remember that time Miley Cyrus once joked that she would marry Nick Jonas? The Disney alums were long-rumored to be an item during the late 2000s. In 2008, a then 16-year-old Cyrus confirmed the relationship in an interview with Seventeen after their split.

"We became boyfriend and girlfriend the day we met. He was on a quest to meet me, and he was like, 'I think you're beautiful and I really like you.' And I was like, 'Oh, my gosh, I like you so much, she told the publication. "Maybe he'll be my best friend for the rest of my life or maybe I'll end up marrying Nick Jonas!"

As E! notes, the duo were on their musical tour, the Best of Both Worlds Tour, together during the time of their split, which featured the now defunct Jonas Brothers as Cyrus’ opening act. She told Seventeen: “Nick and I loved each other. We still do, but we were in love with each other. For two years he was basically my 24/7. But it was really hard to keep it from people. We were arguing a lot, and it really wasn’t fun.”

Cyrus and Jonas are certainly well past their breakup by now. On December 1st, Jonas wed actress Priyanka Chopra in a highly-publicized wedding in Chopra’s home country of India. The duo got engaged in July 2018. And on Christmas Eve, Cyrus wed longtime love Liam Hemsworth in an intimate ceremony in Nashville, Tennessee. The duo began dating in 2010, and following an on-and-off-again relationship, reunited in 2016 and have been going strong since.
