Miley Cyrus got real about how her mom got her back into smoking weed again

Miley Cyrus has always been open and honest about her life choices—and perhaps especially when it comes to substance use. Cyrus has never shied away from talking about marijuana specifically, and how it can affect her mind and ability to stay present. In a June 2017 appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, she noted that she hadn’t imbibed in three weeks.

“I stopped smoking because, to sit here and to talk about what I’m doing, I wanted to be really clear because I’m actually the most passionate about what I’m doing with this record then I’ve been—I say this every time,” she said. “I loved making this record so, so much. And this record, for me, at this moment, is the most important album that I’ve ever made. So, I wanted to make sure that I’m super clear about the way I’m talking.”

However, in a December 9th interview with The Sun, the singer mentioned that she smokes again now that her album is nearing completion (she says it will be coming our way in 2019, but didn’t reveal a title). And not only that, but her mom is the one who got her back into it.

"My mom [Tish Cyrus] got me back on it. When I’m just working I don’t think I function at my highest, most intelligent, most being-able-to-be-as-aware-and- as-present, so I don’t smoke when I work," she said.

We love Miley’s candor, and we’re all for her doing whatever she needs to in order to feel like she’s being her best, most creative self—whether that means imbibing or not. Miley Cyrus’s new single, “Nothing Breaks Like A Heart” is out now, and you can watch the video below:
