Miley Cyrus reveals why she and Liam Hemsworth needed to break up the first time

Miley Cyrus has always been very honest about her personal life, and we love how candid she is. Miley just opened up about what went wrong in her relationship with Liam Hemsworth the first time around, and her answer actually makes a ton of sense.

Of course, Miley was famously engaged to Liam before the couple called it quits in 2013. They spent a few years apart before reconnecting in 2016, and much of her new music is reportedly inspired by their reconciliation. Now Miley is talking about her split from Liam, explaining the reasons why it was actually a good thing they took some time apart.

In an interview with SiriusXM’s Hits 1 last week, Miley explained what she would tell her younger self about relationships, and it’s a truly zen approach. She says she’d tell herself:

"I think, know that everything is happening for the right reason, and I knew that when we weren't together for the first time. I didn't know if that was the end of it, or if we'd be back together again, but knew that wherever I was going, I was on the right path."

Ultimately, she’s glad they took time apart because it gave them each time to grow, and makes their relationship stronger going forward.

“I think, people who break up and get back together, I think that’s awesome, because you know it’s true, but you get time to be yourself. You get time to grow up. I think if you’re growing up attached to another person, you never really get solid as your own being. So I’m really solid, and then he gets to be really solid, and then together, we get to be two really grounded people. But it’s not a half and a half make a whole.”
