Miley Cyrus has a “modern mullet,” thanks to her mom’s at-home cut
First Billie Eilish did it, and now Miley Cyrus is the most recent celeb to hop on the “modern mullet” train. On November 25th, the “Slide Away” singer debuted a new chop on her Instagram Story, and it’s all business in the front, party in the back—just in time to celebrate Thanksgiving.
Some of Cyrus’s fans love the new, shaggy look. Others aren’t so hot on the idea of modernizing a mullet. But hey, that’s the beauty of hair—it grows out, changes, and can be cut again. Cyrus seems to like her new ~lewk~ so who are we to drag her down?
“PUNK VIBE,” Cyrus’s hairstylist Sally Hershberger captioned a shot of Cyrus’s new ‘do. But the real kicker is, Hershberger wasn’t the first one to take her hair shears to Cyrus’s head for this cut.
Truth be told, Cyrus’s mother, Tish, was the first to knock off a few inches of her daughter’s hair. Hershberger simply took it from there.
“Giving @mileycyrus a little B-day haircut!!” Tish captioned her November 24th pic, adding the hashtags #staytuned #itsgood. Cyrus turned 27 on the 23rd.

And Hershberger wasn’t about to let the haters drag Cyrus’s new cut. She responded to a fan on Instagram who criticized the reveal shot of the mullet.
"@MileysGem first of all if you knew anything about hair, it’s the position she’s in that’s why it looks that way, it’s 100% even and she also had it straightened so it’s more severe, which I actually like," Hershberger wrote. "That being said, chill out and know it’s a modern mullet, which is very cool but it’s something you probably aren’t even well-versed in sorry but not sorry."
“Sorry but not sorry,” indeed! We’re excited to see how Cyrus styles her modern mullet through the holidays. And heck, after seeing it come back into the mainstream, we may just have to ponder getting a mullet ourselves.
