Miley Cyrus sang a feminist AF rendition of “Santa Baby” on Fallon, and we’re so here for this
As much as we love singing along to classic holiday music, we can’t deny that some Christmas songs are regressive, to say the least. “Baby It’s Cold Outside” has been the most prominent target of (well-deserved) backlash in recent years, but there are plenty of other offenders. In a December 20th appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Miley Cyrus changed the lyrics of “Santa Baby” to send a much more progressive—and feminist—message. The skit opens with Cyrus and Fallon discussing her performance backstage, when the “Nothing Breaks Like a Heart” singer objects to some of the song’s lyrics.
"I'm asking for a car and a yacht and checks and literally the deed to a platinum mine," she says. "Plus, am I saying that I'm gonna hook up with Santa if he buys me all this stuff?"
Fallon then gives her free rein to change the song, and Cyrus’s new modernized “Santa Baby” does not disappoint. “Santa baby, I don’t need any fancy jewelry, not me,” she croons. “I’ve got something else in mind, Santa baby / And I don’t need your presents tonight.”
She goes on to sing lyrics like, "I can buy my own damn stuff" and "I've got a baller car of my own," continuing with, "Santa baby, I'd love to know my ass won't get grabbed at work by some ignorant jerk / Tell the dirtbag to put away the chimney tonight."

Cyrus’s new “Santa Baby” just might be our new holiday staple. And maybe she can rework a few other outdated tunes, too? Here’s hoping.
