Miley Cyrus broke her “no red carpets” rule at last night’s Grammys, and fans think this is why

The last few years have marked a transformation for Miley Cyrus. She went from being one of the most controversial pop stars out there to being much more subdued and private. Her appearance at the 2018 Grammys only reinforced this new, more adult stage of Cyrus’s career. She performed a beautiful “Tiny Dancer” duet with Sir Elton John, and she looked positively sophisticated.

At the Grammys, Cyrus also broke her “no red carpets” rule, and the reason why is pretty amazing. Cyrus swore off the red carpet scene in 2016. She explained why in an interview with Elle magazine, saying,

"[A year ago] I had to do the [A Very Murray Christmas] premiere, and I will never do a red carpet again. Why, when people are starving, am I on a carpet that's red? Because I'm 'important'? Because I'm 'famous'? That's not how I roll. It's like a skit — it's like Zoolander."

Since then, Cyrus has made very few appearances on the red carpet. The most notable was when she walked the carpet with Liam Hemsworth at the premiere of Thor: Ragnarok, one of their first and only public appearances together as a couple.

Then there was last night at the Grammys, when Cryus worked the carpet like a total pro. Wearing a simple but gorgeous black sleeveless jumpsuit and pumps with glitter heels, Cyrus also carried a white rose as a nod to the Time’s Up movement.

Although Cyrus didn’t make a statement about breaking her “no red carpets” rule, we assume it was because of the white rose campaign.

Cyrus has always been outspoken about sexual abuse and the #MeToo and Time’s Up movements. She has taken every opportunity support them, so it’s not surprising that she would use the Grammys red carpet to raise even more awareness. Of course, it’s also possible that she walked the carpet because of her performance with her friend, Sir Elton John.

Whatever the reason, Cyrus looked amazing and had a whole lot of fun doing her thing. She even ended up matching with Rita Ora:

After the carpet, Cyrus gave a beautiful performance with Elton John, and it appeared to be everything she wanted it to be.

While we admire Cyrus’s reason for not walking red carpets, we have to say that after this show, she might change her mind in the name of red carpet activism.
