Biracial Spider-Man Miles Morales is finally getting his own movie

Ever since Miles Morales entered the Marvel comics universe as a new Spider-Man, comics fans have been asking Sony and, as of late, Marvel to include him in the extended Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Don’t get us wrong — we love Tom Holland’s Spidey and are looking forward to the (super diverse) Spider-Man: Homecoming, but the half-Puerto Rican, half-black Morales could’ve been a great starting point for a new Spider-Man reboot, if one had to happen. But 2017 is bringing at least one dope thing to fruition.

Miles Morales is getting his own movie, and it’s even got a projected release date: December, 2018.

Before you start fancasting Morales: The film is arriving courtesy of Sony Pictures Animation, so there won’t be, say, a Morales drop-in coming up in either Homecoming or any of the other MCU-adjacent films. But Phil Lord, who worked animated magic with The Lego Movie, is writing the script. Given how amazing Lego Batman was (to the point where he’s now got his own movie), this is a promising sign.

Back in 2014, then-Spider-Man Andrew Garfield mentioned passing the torch onto Morales, who was by then three-years-old. (Since his creation in 2011 by Brian Michael Bendis and Sara Pichelli.) It seems in 2018, that desire will finally become reality. Whether you’re a comics fan or an MCU/Spidey films fan/animation fan, or just discovering Morales, get pumped.
