How Mila Kunis Became Queen of the Earth, Our Hearts

How excited are you for the upcoming film Jupiter Ascending? Not only does it focus around science fiction, but it was written and directed by the Wachowski’s, who have brought us the Matrix films as well as V for Vendetta. With their involvement, the film – which will hit theaters this July – is bound to be insanely good.

Know who else assures us that the movie will be a hit? Mila Kunis, who stars as a janitor who comes to terms with the fact that her genetic destiny has far-reaching implications that extend beyond Earth. Throughout Mila’s impressive young career, she’s taken on a variety of roles that prove she’s a versatile actress with a great sense of humor. The soon-to-be Mom has definitely stolen our hearts, and here’s a list of reasons why she’s “Queen of the Earth” both in the film, and off screen.

Mila found a loophole when she auditioned for the role of Jackie on That 70’s Show.

All who auditioned were required to be at least 18 years old, and Mila was – well – 14. When the casting directors asked how old she was, she stated that she would “be 18.” They assumed that Mila meant within the year. And hey – technically, it wasn’t a lie. After hiring her on, she went on to win two consecutive Young Star Awards as Best Young Actress in a Comedy TV Series in 1999 and 2000.

She made Meg Griffin come alive.

Sure, Meg isn’t the most popular Family Guy character by a longshot, but Mila lending her voice to the awkward teen makes her a little more likable. Here’s a fun fact: Lacey Chabert originally voiced Meg, before Mila replaced her. I’m sure there’s no hard feelings, since Lacey’s career is still going pretty strong.

Ashton Kutcher was actually Mila’s first kiss. How romantic is that? Sure, they were in character – and sure, rumors were afloat that they hated each other while on set. They’ve both grown up since, and it’s sweet that they were able to reconnect and fall in love. How many people end up marrying their first kiss?

It’s rumored that she learned English by watching The Price Is Right. Mila emigrated from her native Ukraine to Los Angeles at the age of seven, so English wasn’t her first language. She’s admitted in interviews that she had some trouble in school early on, based on feeling “blind and deaf” by the language barrier. Reports say that The Price Is Right helped her become fluent, which is pretty incredible. Bob Barker should be proud.

She cares a lot about her family.

For example, remember that famous fantasy sex scene between Mila and Natalie Portman in Black Swan? She has made sure her Dad never watched it. “He was like, ‘I don’t think I should see the movie,’ Kunis told MTV News. “I was like, ‘See the movie. There’s going to be a point; get up and leave.’” During the viewing, she signaled to him when it’d happen, and he did exactly that.

She’s adorably nerdy. Mila has admitted to playing World of Warcraft, and was spotted at the Star Trek Convention in Vegas, hanging out with fellow fans in costume. She definitely proves that people who identify as nerds can come in all shapes and sizes.

She sticks up for her friends. At a Russian press conference for the film Friends With Benefits, a reporter chewed out Justin Timberlake for focusing more on movies than his music career. Being fluent in Russian, Mila had Justin’s back. “Why movies? Why not? What kind of question is that? Why are you here?”

Even Justin seems surprised by her willingness to stick up for him. Plus, come on guys. Justin is so talented, that he’ll be great no matter where his career takes him.

She helped promote Lisa Frank. If you’re a girl who was born in the ’80s, you’re probably quite familiar with Lisa Frank. You might also know that Lisa Frank herself barely showed her face. That Lisa. What a mystery.

Mila was in a commercial for the brand, and oh my gosh. I’m (kind of) an adult, but I still want that bedroom decked out in Lisa Frank merchandise.

She sticks to her promises. Every so often, you hear a story about a celebrity being asked to prom. It typically gets a lot of press, but almost always falls through. Mila is the exception.

In 2011, Mila was invited by Sgt. Scott Moore to the Marine Corps Birthday Ball through a video which quickly went viral. Not only did she say yes, but she followed through with it.

Mila started the night by complimenting her guest, and then breaking out the booze. “She told him he looked handsome in his dress blues — and that she was nervous. Out came the vodka, and the two downed a shot to take the edge off,” stated Marine Corps Times. Remember how I talked about friendship? Justin Timberlake inspired her to go, and ended up attending the event as well.

Now that you know why we adore Mila, are you planning on catching Jupiter Ascending in theaters this summer?
