Mila Kunis just confessed to this scary parenting mistake

Being a parent is hard. There’s a lot to do, a lot to remember and a lot of time and energy to give (and 12 million things to do in between — I can only imagine). By the time most kids have their first birthday, it’s probably safe to assume that each parent has made at least a million mistakes. Not huge, life shattering mistakes, most likely. But mistakes, nonetheless. Because parents are humans, after all.

Mila Kunis is one of those parents (the human kind that makes mistakes). While promoting her new movie Bad Momsactress revealed to Babble the biggest mistake she’s made since giving birth to her 21-month-old daughter Wyatt that could have ended really, really badly. So badly, that she swore at the time she’d never admit her mistake to anyone.

While taking a two hour road trip to visit husband Ashton Kutcher, Kunis congratulated herself on packing up the car, keeping the baby happy, and basically being an all-around badass mom.

“You have to pack all this stuff up in anticipation of everything going horribly wrong with the first baby,” Kunis told Babble. “And I was like, ‘I did it.’ I put her in the car. Like, I high-five myself. [As] I’m driving down the 101, I was like ‘Oh my God, I’m doing really good today.’”

Kunis was on a parenting high until she realized her colossal mistake.

“She was being really quiet, and I was like, ‘Oh, let me look in the rearview mirror to make sure everything’s okay,’” Kunis explained. “And I look, and she’s happy as can be, but just not nearly strapped in.”

She may have packed Wyatt’s entire room and everything she could possibly ever need into the car, but she forgot to buckle her into her seat.

“I was like, oh, fuck me,” Kunis said. “And I’m on the 101, and she’s just like blah, like fine in her car seat, nothing, no strap whatsoever. And I think I just turned white.”

As soon as she realized her mistake, she was able to pull over and properly buckle her baby. Kunis swore she’d never share her parenting horror story, but we’re really glad she did. Because it proves that parents aren’t perfect, and we’re all just doing the best we can.
