What are the lyrics to “Mighty River”? Mary J. Blige co-wrote the emotional song for “Mudbound”

Anyone else prepping for the 2018 Oscars? Whether you’re planning an elaborate Oscars party or just eating pizza, we know it will be worth the watch. This year, Mary J. Blige is one of five Best Original Song nominees who will take the stage during the ceremony — and we totally cannot wait. Blige will perform her song “Mighty River” from the film Mudbound, for which she is also nominated for Best Supporting Actress.

Netflix’s Mudbound is nominated for multiple Oscars, including Best Cinematography for Rachel Morrison, the first woman to ever receive a nomination in that category. The film tells the story of two families, one black and one white, returning home to work on a farm in rural Mississippi after World War II. Blige stars as Florence, the matriarch of the Jackson family, and her performance in the Netflix drama made her the first person to be nominated in these two categories for the same film.

Netflix received a total of eight Oscar nominations this year, including a nod for Best Adapted Screenplay for Mudbound. Although Mudbound failed to receive a nomination for Best Picture or Best Director, the film could make history in more ways than one tonight.

If Mary J. Blige takes home the Best Supporting Actress award, she’ll become the first actress in a streaming film to nab an Oscar.

Morrison’s win in her category would also be a huge victory for women in Hollywood.

And here are just some of the lyrics from the emotional song:

Life is a teacher, time is a healer
And I’m a believer like a river wild
Ego’s a killer, greed is a monster
But love is stronger, stronger than them all

White flag in hand, I don’t wanna fight
No lines in the sand, I’m on your side
Invisible, no color life
It’s time we put our, put our, put our differences aside

Time tells no lies
It keeps changing, and ticking, and moving, then passes by
But if you’re lucky, it will be kind
Like a river flowing through time

Now if you’ll excuse us, we need to listen to this on repeat while prepping for our Oscar-themed party. Will you be watching tonight?
