Michelle Williams’ words on “love of my life” Busy Phillips will make you cry BFF tears

Life often doesn’t work out exactly the way we expect it to, which is basically why the love between BFFs Michelle Williams and Busy Phillips feels so massively important.

Through many years that brought them joy, pain, love, heartbreak, children, and of course, the death of Williams’ ex-partner Heath Ledger in 2007, the two have quite literally remained by each others’ sides — reminding us all that the most important relationship in our lives does not have to be a romantic one. And we definitely shouldn’t judge ourselves if it isn’t.

“I’m here with my best friend,” Williams told the crowd during a screening of her hit movie Manchester by the Sea in New York on Sunday. “I’m so in love with her. She’s proof that the love of your life does not have to be a man! That’s the love of my life, right there.”

Phillips, ever the doting and proud best friend, then posted a side-by-side shot of the ladies 15 years ago — around the time they met on the set of Dawson’s Creek — next to a shot from Sunday’s event, highlighting how much the women have changed, but also stayed exactly the same. At least, you know, in terms of how much they love each other.

Phillips has famously been Williams’ date for the majority of the awards shows she attends. (In case you haven’t noticed, she tends to get nominated for her work. A lot.) At the Critics’ Choice Awards just last week, Phillips posted another shot of the two hanging out in a porta potty, because that’s what you do when you’re famous and gorgeous and hanging out at an event held in an airplane hangar at the Santa Monica airport.

Basically what we’re saying is Williams and Phillips are Oprah and Gayle 2.0, and that we love how both of them openly cherish the friendship like most people would a romantic relationship. Now all we can ask for is for Williams’ daughter, Matilda, to start a girl gang with Phillips’ two girls, Birdie and Cricket, and take down the patriarchy by 2022.

Until then, we’ll look forward to seeing our two Dawson’s Creek faves living and loving it up at the Golden Globes.
