Michelle Obama Is Ready For a Female President (and So Are We)
First Lady Michelle Obama is among the chorus of people who hopes that our next POTUS will be a woman. Obama, fresh off the inaugural White House Summit on Working Families, raised the issue with Robin Roberts.
Roberts asked FLOTUS when the country should embrace a female president, and got an emphatic response. “That should happen as soon as possible,” Obama said. “You know, I think this country is ready. This country is ready for anyone who can do the job. And what we have learned is that the person who can do the job doesn’t have a particular race or gender or background or socioeconomic status. The person who should do the job is the person who is the most qualified,” Obama continued.
“And I think we have some options don’t we?” Hint, hint. Could that be Obama’s way of signaling an endorsement for Hillary Clinton’s potential Presidential bid? It certainly sounds that way to some people.
Regardless of any political speculation, Obama is right on point about our country being ready for a female candidate. But don’t expect to see the First Lady vying for the position. “You sure you’re not getting into politics?” Roberts asked. “Because that answer was really good.”
“I am positive,” Obama replied. Cue the sounds of disappointed sighs from Mrs. O fans everywhere.
