Michelle Obama knows, we all secretly want to be Beyoncé
As the ancient proverb says, “Always be yourself . . . unless you can be Beyoncé.” That’s an adage that the First Lady herself seems to be in support of. In an interview with Wale posted on Instagram over the weekend, Michelle Obama shared what she would do if she could choose another career. The question: “If you had the opportunity to have a different occupation, what would it be?” FLOTUS’ answer: “I would be Beyoncé.” Then she did a little of the “Single Ladies” moves while saying, “I’ve got the hands.”
BTW: The Q&A was all part of the Beat the Odds summit hosted by Mrs. Obama last week at the White House — the summit was all about giving students advice and resources for college prep. Right on.
This, of course, is not nearly the first time the First Lady has sung Beyoncé’s praises. Mrs. Obama has been spotted at Queen Bey concerts (with Sasha and Malia), has worked on fundraisers with Bey, danced to Beyoncé singing at the 2009 inauguration ball, and watched her perform at President Obama’s 2012 inauguration ceremony.
It also seems that the admiration feelings are mutual. In a video letter to the First Lady back in 2012, Beyoncé said: “I’m so in awe of Michelle Obama. Every time I see her, she inspires me, she empowers me, she encourages me to live a healthy lifestyle . . . I’m proud to have my daughter grow up in a world where she has people like you to look up to.”
We totally love these powerful women supporting one another and crushing on each other’s lives. We also really like the idea of “Beyoncé” being an occupation one could choose. We’d totally be Beyoncé when we grow up. We’d also totally be Michelle Obama.
