ICYMI: Michael Caine does his best Michael Caine impression, Internet implodes

Few people have as distinct a voice as the legendary Sir Michael Caine. His accent and inflections are unmistakable — and his voice has held the world’s fascination for decades. While the Oscar-winning actor is immensely talented and responsible for some of the most iconic characters of all time (hello, Alfie), it’s hard to think of him without first thinking of his voice. Often imitated but rarely duplicated, a Caine impersonation is a must-have for any impressionist’s arsenal. In fact, it’s almost as if we hear impressions of Caine more often than we hear Caine himself — and now, the actor has decided to set the record straight.

Last week, Sir Michael Caine stopped by The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to do his best impression of, well, Sir Michael Caine. It’s basically an impression inception (… which also happens to be a film that Caine starred in) — and it’s pretty darn glorious. Utilizing the most oft-used phrases one does when impersonating him, Caine completely nails it. It almost feels as though we’re listening to the real thing. (Ha ha ha.)

Our obsession with Caine’s voice is a pop culture phenomenon, perhaps most famously shown in this scene between Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon in The Trip. (It has over 3.4 million views on YouTube, and it’s a must-see.) But as Caine proves in this video, nothing compares to the original.
