Michael B. Jordan is bringing a superhero series to Netflix, because sometimes TV dreams come true
If three of your favorite things happen to be Michael B. Jordan, superheroes, and binge-watching shows (because, duh)…then, boy, do we have some great news for you. There’s a new 10-episode series heading to Netflix called Raising Dion.
It already sounds like our new TV show crush — because did we mention it stars Michael B. Jordan?
The series revolves around a recently widowed mother named Nicole Reese, who discovers that her son has supernatural powers. Jordan plays Nicole’s late husband/Dion’s late father and will also be an executive producer on the show.
Director Dennis Liu, whose short film and comic book inspired the series, wanted to bring more diverse stories to the screen, and sign us up *immediately* for that.
“I started this project many years ago because I wanted to see more diverse representation on film and television and I’m excited to partner with Netflix and Macro, who I know shares that commitment, Liu said. “More than ever, we need more stories told from different points of view and my hope with Raising Dion is to create a cinematic experience for all families that will lift your spirits and make you laugh and cry.
And for all of you who feel like you’ve seen just about ever iteration possible of the superhero genre – never fear.
According to Cindy Holland, Netflix’s VP of original content, this one is going to be unique.
“We haven’t seen this type of superhero story before — an origin myth full of imagination, wonder and adventure, all grounded in the experiences of a modern single mother,” Holland said. “Michael B. Jordan is an exciting and dynamic talent, and I’m excited to see him, Macro, Carol and the team translate Dennis’ unique vision to television.”
To hold you over until its release, there’s a lot more ahead from Jordan on the action front.
Black Panther, anyone? That lands in theaters on February 16th.
