Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks will costar in a political drama with Steven Spielberg directing, and just give it all the Oscars already

Meryl Streep. Tom Hanks. Steven Spielberg. These aren’t just three Hollywood people we’re obsessed with. Though, of course, they are. They’re also the three geniuses behind a new political drama about the Pentagon Papers that will start shooting this spring. Which means this film will be ready in time for next year’s Oscars.
What we’re saying is, we would not at ALL be surprised if Meryl Streep, Tom Hanks, and Steven Spielberg all won big at next year’s Oscars.
Spielberg will direct Hanks and Streep in The Post, a drama that follows the Washington Post’s role in 1971 in exposing the Pentagon Papers, the secret Department of Defense study of U.S. political and military involvement in Vietnam from 1945 to 1967.
Tom Hanks will play Washington Post editor Ben Bradlee. And Meryl Streep will play the paper’s publisher Kay Graham. And we’re sure they’re both going to win Oscars.
Okay, we may be jumping the gun a little bit. There’s a LOT of great-sounding films up for consideration next year. Kathryn Bigelow has a drama coming up about the Detroit riots of 1967. And Adam McKay is making a movie about Dick Cheney. Also, Christopher Nolan was making a movie about WWII. And, Paul Thomas Anderson has a new movie coming up with Daniel Day Lewis. Like, as if we weren’t dream team geeking out enough about Spielberg/Streep/Hanks.
So maybe we can’t predict Oscar WINNERS right this second. You know, without having actually seen all these movies.
But we feel pretty confident saying this terrific trio has pretty solid chance at scoring some nominations.
And we would not at ALL be surprised if the Streep-Hanks-Spielberg trifecta emerged from next year’s Oscars as big-time winners.
We’re so excited for next year’s Oscar movies, late-fall/early winter cannot come soon enough!
