Meryl Streep perfectly sums up Harvey Weinstein allegations as a “gargantuan example of disrespect”

Queen of Hollywood and all things women’s rights Meryl Streep is standing up to Harvey Weinstein in a big way — by choosing the right words. The actress recently spoke at the Massachusetts Conference for Women on Thursday when she expressed some thoughts on the Weinstein scandal.

Streep said this scandal is "the most gargantuan example of disrespect."

We’d have to agree.

Along with finding the perfect words to sum up Weinstein’s abuse of power, the Academy Award winner, alongside feminist icon Gloria Steinem and other actresses, is calling for a set of non-negotiable demands following the former Hollywood executive’s allegations of sexual assault and harassment. One of those demands includes full equality for women in leadership roles in the entertainment industry, in order to create a safer and more inclusive workplace.

"We are after 50/50 for 2020. Equal means equal. And if it starts at the top, none of these shenanigans would have filtered down and it wouldn't have been tolerated," Streep stated at the Conference for Women. "It's such an interesting moment, because this conversation about why this is so widespread, this is really worth having and it's fantastic. I can't help thinking it's just a door that's opening to a better world."

Streep’s optimism is the most inspiring part of the speech. While it might seem like the current conversation is moving change forward, it’s also a hard time to stay positive as accusations involving sexual abuse continue to pour out. Streep not only has a solid plan for the future, but talks about it with such a force of positivity that it’s difficult not to think this is possible.

The world needs more Meryl Streeps, so keep working, ladies. We still have a lot to do.
