Meryl Streep explained why she sat on Mariah Carey’s lap at the 2018 Golden Globes

One of the best things about awards shows is the fact that so many legends get to mingle in one place. Witnessing Meryl Streep sitting on Mariah Carey’s lap, for example,  is something that might not happen on a standard day, but it could definitely happen at the 2018 Golden Globes. And apparently it did.

The moment happened during a commercial break. As you’d expect, when the cameras are off, celebrities feel inclined to chat with each other and catch up. According to Streep, she got up for a bit to find that her seat was stolen by Carey.

Since she’s Meryl Streep, and can easily make anything better by turning it into a story, she explained what went down on Jimmy Kimmel Live. For the record, it seems as if the two celebrities got along wonderfully, so even though she used some pretty colorful language, we know there’s no bad blood between them.

Of course, before getting into it, she made sure to discuss the top thing on everyone’s mind. “What a wild night,” Streep said. “Oprah launched her presidential campaign, I think.” Fingers crossed that if this happens, she takes the suggestion of Tom Hanks as vice president seriously.

Then, she talked about the interesting way she met Carey.

"Bitch stole my seat," Streep said.

According to Streep, Carey was busy talking to Steven Spielberg, “sucking up.” When Carey realized what she did, she seemed apologetic.

"She said, 'Oh my god, they made me sit down because we were moving!'" But according to Streep, she just used the opportunity to sit on her lap. "It's comfy," Streep said.

This seems like the perfect start to the best “how we became best friends” story ever. Hopefully these two get to experience more events together in the future.
