This mermaid is celebrating the International Day of Peace

Today, we celebrate the International Day of Peace, which is something we think the world needs right now. (Mermaids totally do, too.)

This year, the United Nations’ theme is “Together for Peace: Respect, Safety, and Dignity for All.” And this is so relevant to all the issues the world is experiencing right now.

As you read this, there are many terrible natural disasters affecting us. If we focus on the terrible news, I’m sure we’d end up overwhelmed; but as Fred Rogers once said,

“When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, 'Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.'"

That’s why we think even a little help can go a long way.

We don’t only have natural disasters, but also human ones, and I think it’s important to always smile wherever you go and to be kind to everyone (again, it’s the little things). And we’re pretty sure that if mermaids could come up and help us, they would (they probably have their own things going on under the ocean, right?), so let’s also give them a hand by taking care of our oceans.

I live in México and felt the terrible earthquake that hit us this past Tuesday. The first thing that goes through your head is your family, and the safety of all your loved ones, but when you realize that everyone is helping each other, it gives you a certain sense of peace after the chaos. Ultimately, I hope those affected find peace, and I hope we can always help each other.

I hope you swim by next week, and if you want to find out more about this day, click here.
