Today is a very special day for the film industry. It’s the 90th Academy Awards, and that means our favorite actors get to be recognized for a job well done. But since the very beginning, the Oscars have featured a lot more than awards. The ceremony reflects the time period it’s in, meaning it always features powerful messages.

Art has the objective of making us feel, grow, and open our minds. Movies are no exception. Each year, the Oscars have had to evolve and grow with us, whether that involves the themes behind the movies it rewards, the people nominated, or the seconds it gives the winners to deliver a message to the world.

With all that being said, we truly believe that the Oscars statue should look a little more like this (come on, people, it’s time to be inclusive).
