Melissa McCarthy takes on sexist “Ghostbusters” critics

The new Ghostbusters remake has been getting a lot of flack from fans of the original film — and some of the reasons are just plaid silly.

People of the internet are concerned with the fact that one of their favorite films is being remade. They feel like classics just shouldn’t be touched, because they don’t want their childhood memories to be tarnished. We understand the sentiment, but it all seems really extreme and not at all rational.

But haters aren’t just hating on the movie being remade, they seem to be most upset that it’s being remade with four WOMEN instead of four MEN. Sigh.

Those women are Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jone — all brilliantly hilarious and 100% worthy of remaking such a classic. The film isn’t a special girl-themed version of Ghostbusters. It’s just Ghostbusters, and the stars happen to be women.

In an interview with The Guardian, McCarthy gave a strongly worded messages to the haters who are already criticizing the film before even seeing it.

“All those comments, ‘You’re ruining my childhood!’ I mean, really,” McCarthy said. “Four women doing any movie on earth will destroy your childhood?”

She added, “I have a visual of those people not having a Ben [Falcone], not having friends, so they’re just sitting there and spewing hate into this fake world of the internet. I just hope they find a friend.”
