All the best late-night roasts about Melania Trump’s wildly insensitive jacket
Yesterday, June 21st, First Lady Melania Trump made headlines (yet again) for an insensitive wardrobe choice. As you might recall, FLOTUS made waves in August 2017 when she wore designer stilettos to survey the destruction left by Hurricane Harvey in Texas — when many residents still didn’t even have basic necessities like food and shelter.
This time, many citizens are irate that Melania — who represents the White House, and therefore our country — wore a jacket featuring the glib words “I Really Don’t Care, Do U?” while traveling to visit children detained at our southern border. While FLOTUS didn’t wear the jacket at the actual detention center (just en route), the wardrobe choice showed a staggering lack of judgment and empathy.

And as you might expect, our great comedians of late-night weren’t about to let this slide.

And Jimmy Kimmel made a solid point.
“She was on her way to meet children who have been separated from their parents. This is what she wore on the plane ride there: a jacket that says, ‘I REALLY DON’T CARE. DO U?’ Is the president now tweeting onto his wife’s clothes?" he joked. He continued, “Remember when Michelle Obama showed her bare arms and went to an oil spill, and Fox News went nuts? I’m sure they’ll have the same reaction to this.
We honestly can’t fathom how Melania Trump and her team thought such a callous — and frankly, juvenile — message was appropriate for a representative of the United States, let alone acceptable to wear while visiting detained children.
An apology is probably too much to hope for, but it’s certainly owed — to both the American people, and to the children Melania Trump went to see.
