Meghan Markle once gave the best advice to single people on Valentine’s Day
Listen up everyone: Meghan Markle says you should love yourself on Valentine’s Day, and we totally agree. In fact, we think her advice should stretch all-year long. The soon-to-be royal once posted a Valentine’s Day message on her former website, The Tig, about self-love. Her message is empowering and emphasizes that don’t need anyone else but yourself to be happy.
Markle starts the post by prefacing that this is in “regard” to her 2015 post about Valentine’s Day, writing, “I think you need to be your own Valentine.” (Remember, her words are from 2015, aka before Prince Harry, but just because you’re dating someone doesn’t mean you should ever lose sight of self-love). She goes on to explain how in 2015 her friends had to remind her to be kind to herself. Thanks to her Suits co-stars Sarah Rafferty and Gina Torres, she re-learned that self-love is where it’s at.
"Last season I was chatting with my Suits sister wives, Sarah and Gina, and was in some sort of funk, bemoaning something that was so futile I don’t even remember what it was now. But I was faaaaaar from showing [myself] self love," she explained.

“One of them stopped me — truth be told I can’t remember which one because they both impart their sage wisdom with me on the daily — but one of the stylish wise ones stopped me and said, ‘Hey! That’s my friend you’re talking about. Be nice to her.’”
She continued, saying, “They were protecting me from myself. From my own criticism, and my own self doubt. They were reminding me to treat myself as well as I treat those closest to me. To be my own valentine.”
Markle has since learned her lesson and revealed in the re-grammed post that she celebrated the holiday with friends, and focused on herself that year.

“This Valentine’s Day I will be with friends, running amock through the streets of New York, likely imbibing some cocktail that’s oddly pink, and jumping over icy mounds in my new shoes through the salted snowy streets of the West Village,” she noted in the post.
“But those shoes, by the way, were my gift to myself. Because I’ve worked hard, because I’m not going to wait for someone to buy me the things I covet (nor do I want to), and because I want to treat myself as well as I treat those dearest to me. Because I am my own funny Valentine,” she said.

"So whether you have a special someone, you’ll be with friends, or you’ll be flying solo this Valentine’s Day (or any other day for that matter), be good to yourself. Love yourself, treat yourself, honor yourself and celebrate you. Be your own beautiful, darling, cherished and funny Valentine. You deserve it," she concluded.
Preach, Meghan, preach.
This entire tale rings true to women everywhere. Whether you are marrying a prince or riding solo, you should always be your own Valentine, and your biggest fan. Work hard, be happy, and love yourself.
