Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are fans of “The Crown,” and that’s a binge-watching session we’d love to join
Netflix’s The Crown is an endlessly watchable and wildly popular period drama. And as it turns out, we’re not the only ones who are fans. It was recently revealed that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s date nights at home often include eating homemade dinners, watching movies, and binging Netflix TV shows — including the one that chronicles the life of Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Harry’s grandmother.
How do we know this? Well, excerpts from royal expert Katie Nicholl’s forthcoming book (Harry: Life, Loss, and Love) were published in The New York Post on Saturday, March 17th, and the tidbit about Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s fondness for The Crown was just one of the reveals. The engaged couple have now joined members of the Queen’s inner circle who’ve also seen the show.
Most of us don’t have a critically acclaimed drama about our family’s life and history to binge-watch. And that’s what makes this news particularly awesome (not to mention hilariously meta, in a way). Maybe it’s Prince Harry’s way of giving Meghan Markle a crash-course in royal family lore. If that’s the case, it’s probably a lot more fun than royal history study sessions.
The idea that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are fans of The Crown leaves us with so many questions.
For one, what does Meghan think about the fact Claire Foy was paid less for her role as Queen than Matt Smith (who plays Prince Philip, Queen Elizabeth’s husband) did? Meghan’s been an advocate for women’s equality for a long time, so we bet she has some strong opinions about it.
And how does Harry feel about the next actress cast to play his granny? That’s a post-binge-watch debriefing session we wish we could be in on. Ooh, they’ve probably got a staff-prepared binder that lists the historical inaccuracies the show includes under dramatic license. We’d like to take a peek, too.
Hey, maybe Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are using The Crown as a guide for how they want (or don’t want) to begin their married lives together.
You never know! Stranger things could happen. And yes, Stranger Things should totally be next in the royal couple’s Netflix queue.
