Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s “naked” royal wedding cake is what bridal Pinterest board dreams are made of

We already knew that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were letting protocol slide at their upcoming royal wedding, but their wedding cake is more trendy than traditional — and feels like something straight off someone’s rustic chic wedding Pinterest board. According to a press release via the Kensington Palace Twitter account, the couple has chosen Claire Ptak, owner of London-based bakery Violet Cakes, to create their wedding cake.

According to the palace, "Claire Ptak, who was raised in California, focuses on using seasonal and organic ingredients in her cakes. Ms. Markle previously interviewed Chef Ptak for her former lifestyle website The Tig. Harry and Ms. Markle have asked Claire to create a lemon elderflower cake that will incorporate the bright flavours of spring. It will be covered with buttercream and decorated with fresh flowers."

Yes to the lifestyle blog-ification of the royal wedding!

And just to buck tradition even further, there’s a very good chance this wedding will see some vegan or gluten-free goodies as well. Markle has previously said she likes to eat vegan when she can and Violet Cakes makes a vegan chocolate, spelt, and agave layer cake, plus two different gluten-free cakes made with almond flour.

Here’s a selection of Violet Cake’s beautiful flower-adorned desserts.

"I can’t tell you how delighted I am to be chosen to make Prince Harry and Ms. Markle’s wedding cake. Knowing that they really share the same values as I do about food provenance, sustainability, seasonality and most importantly flavor, makes this the most exciting event to be a part of, Ptak said in a statement (via Vanity Fair).

We’re obsessed with these beautiful naked and floral cakes, and seriously rooting for the most #trendy #nontraditional #rusticchic royal wedding ever. We’re talking mason jars and succulents as a wedding favor. C’mon Markle, don’t let us down.
