Meghan Markle and Prince Harry snuck in some hand-holding at a royal event
We miss the days when all Prince Harry and Meghan Markle did was show off their sweet, sweet PDA. Before their May wedding, the couple was frequently spotted holding hands; but there has been a noticeable shift in how the Duke and Duchess of Sussex behave in public now that they’re married. The two have proven time and again they’re not your typical royal couple (Markle began her walk down the aisle solo), but that doesn’t mean they’re not subject to certain royal protocol — minimal PDA being one of them.
However, we got to glimpse a super sweet moment between the pair on July 5th at the “Your Commonwealth” Youth Challenge event at Marlborough House in London. Harry and Meghan snuck in some hand-holding upon arriving.
The moment happened so quickly that most people didn’t even notice:
Royal reporter Richard Palmer also took video of the event, and the couple clearly – briefly – make contact.

At another point in the evening, Markle reached out and placed her perfectly manicured hand on her husband’s arm (we’ll take what we can get).
Royal commentator Victoria Arbiter explained to Harper’s Bazaar that hand-holding was acceptable because of the less-formal nature of the Youth event, as well as the fact that the queen wasn’t in attendance (which understandably ups the posh-factor).She noted this is why they didn’t touch at a recent event with the monarch.
"There will, of course, be engagements in the future in which hand holding and affection are perfectly acceptable, but [at the awards ceremony], in the presence of the Queen, the couple showed the dignity and respect such an occasion affords," Arbiter said.
Let’s hope we get to see more hand-holding and loving gazes soon, because we honestly live for this.
