Today, August 4th, is Meghan Markle’s 39th birthday, and her family members are helping her celebrate. Although Meghan and Harry stepped down as senior members of the official royal family in March, they are still real-life family (and Duke and Duchess of Sussex) nonetheless.
The Duke and Duchess are currently socially distancing in Los Angeles with their son Archie, and because the @SussexRoyal Instagram account was halted as part of their stepping-down process, it’s unclear how Meghan will celebrate her 39th. Also, that means we likely won’t get a happy birthday message from husband Harry. But, to start, she’ll have some kind messages from the royals waiting for her when she starts her day.
Kate Middleton and Prince William sent their good wishes via the @KensingtonRoyal Instagram account. “Wishing a very happy birthday to The Duchess of Sussex today!”
Queen Elizabeth II’s official Instagram account, @TheRoyalFamily, also shared a birthday message. “Wishing The Duchess of Sussex a very happy birthday!” the post reads, alongside the explanation that the photo of Meghan with the Queen is from their visit to Chester in 2018.
And Harry’s father and step-mother, Prince Charles and Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, wished their daughter-in-law a happy 39th via @ClarenceHouse.
“Happy Birthday to The Duchess of Sussex!” they captioned the post.
Today marks Markle’s first birthday since she and Harry stepped back from the royal family in a fairly tumultuous time. There were reports that the Queen was unhappy with the decision, but the couple has also been embroiled in a legal battle with British tabloids for invasion of privacy and have spoken out about their racist coverage of Markle. Still, it seems there’s zero bad blood among the royals in celebrating Meghan’s birthday.
Though, like everyone else who has celebrated a birthday during the pandemic, Meghan’s birthday probably won’t be as spectacular as she wanted. However, we’re hoping her day is relaxed, fun, and filled with family and friends (virtually, at least!).
