JoJo and Kehlani Took Tory Lanez “TF Off” Their Albums in Support of Megan Thee Stallion

Singers JoJo and Kehlani are showing their support for Megan Thee Stallion by removing rapper Tory Lanez from their respective projects, whom Megan has publicly accused of shooting her in the feet in July.

According to Complex, Lanez appears on the track “Comeback” on JoJo’s fourth studio album, Good to know, which was released in May. But JoJo made clear on Twitter that Lanez will be dropped from the track on the deluxe version of the album, which is coming out on August 28th.

When a fan asked whether Lanez would be appearing on the revamped version of the song, Jojo confirmed: “Def took him TF off.”   

That prompted another fan to petition for Megan Thee Stallion to replace Lanez on the remix, which JoJo responded to pretty enthusiastically. (Obviously this is a hypothetical scenario, but we’d like to express our support for it nonetheless.)

In July, Kehlani also vowed to remove Lanez from the deluxe version of her recent album It Was Good Until It Wasn’t. (Lanez is featured on “Can I,” the album’s first single.) The singer confirmed on Twitter that Lanez’s verse is remaining on the original version of the song, but it would be replaced in the remix. At this time, Megan hadn’t explicitly named Lanez as her shooter.

In an Instagram Live on Thursday, August 20th, Megan publicly identified Tory Lanez as the shooter for the first time since the July incident. Addressing Lanez directly, Megan said, “You shot me. And you got your publicist and your people going to these blogs lying… Stop lying. Why lie? I don’t understand.” 

Megan also went into more detail about the incident in her Instagram Live stream. According to CNN, Megan alleged that the incident ensued after she and Lanez got into an argument in Lanez’s car, in which they were sitting with Megan’s friend and a personal security guard. When she got out of the car and started walking away, Lanez allegedly shot her through the car window in both feet. Lanez was arrested at the scene for possession of a concealed weapon, but he hasn’t faced any charges in connection with the shooting. Megan was taken to a local hospital, where she underwent surgery to remove bullets from her feet.

In the wake of the incident, Megan was faced with crass, shockingly insensitive jokes from both online trolls and celebrities. In response, Megan (and an army of supporters) called out the trolls, both famous and not, for glorifying domestic violence and perpetuating a deeply troubling trend in which Black women’s pain is not taken seriously.

But more and more celebrities are demonstrating their support for Megan.

Michael B. Jordan and Halle Berry came to Megan’s defense on Twitter, following the “WAP” rapper’s allegations against Lanez.

“Meg I admire your courage and applaud you for speaking up. We must Support Black Women, Protect Black Women, and Believe Black Women,” Jordan tweeted on August 21st.

The same day, Berry wrote, “Peace. Protection. Respect. For ALL Black Women. ALWAYS. @theestallion, we stand with you. F**k this sh**. #ProtectBlackWomen.”

If we haven’t already made this abundantly clear, we hear Megan, we believe Megan, we stand with Megan, and we hope she receives whatever support she may need during her recovery.
