We just learned some truly awesome things from the ‘Mean Girls’ reunion
It’s currently cold and dreary outside my window, but seeing the cast of Mean Girl reunite makes it feel like a bright sunny day. The folks at Entertainment Weekly gathered the cast together for their upcoming Reunion Issue, and the result is phenomenal. Ten years after the movie first hit theaters the ladies — Tina Fey, Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, Lacey Chabert and Amanda Seyfried — look absolutely flawless (but, side note, where is Lizzy Caplan?). Yes, Mean Girls is into double digits now. That means we’ve been exclusively wearing pink on Wednesdays for 10 years.
Mean Girls always has been, and always will be, one of my favorite movies for so many reasons. It seems that as the years go on, and I watch it 500 more times, I grow to love it more and more. I’ve got a new reason to love it today. The cast has bequeathed us with some wonderful nuggets of information we never knew about the film. Yes, in fact, this is the film that keeps on giving. Here are the best things we learned from Entertainment Weekly’s Mean Girls reunion.
While making the movie, the best conversation you could ever imagine actually took place
“There was one day where [Lindsay] tried to explain to Amy [Poehler] and me her beef with Hilary Duff, but we couldn’t crack it,” the glorious Tina Fey recalls. “But we were pretending we could follow it.” Can you just imagine the two of them nodding along and pretending to be cool moms? Love this.
Two of the castmembers became total besties
“I had just graduated high school,” says Amanda Seyfried. “It was terrifying. I don’t know what I would have done without Lacey Chabert. She was my angel. She took me in, and we’d hang out in her trailer and listen to Dido.” Chabert chimes in: “Amanda and I became very close very quickly. It was a very special time.” Awww. Look who wasn’t so mean girly after all.
Early 2000’s fashion was in full effect
“I remember 17-year-old Lindsay was on a mission to find pink Uggs,” says Fey. “That was, like, what she was working on.” Look, we’ve all been there. Lohan backs up this claim, and also notes she was into “rhinestoning my phone at the time with Swarovski crystals.” Those were the days.
The Mean Girls were almost totally different
Rachel McAdams actually originally auditioned for the role of Cady but was too old — IRL and in spirit. The director thought she’d be better as Regina. Lindsay Lohan, meanwhile, says she wanted to play Regina. (Seriously, my mind is exploding.) “I was still 17 years old and I wanted to be the cool girl on set,” recalls Lohan. Fey even considered having Lohan play Regina but Lorne Michaels ultimately convinced her that Lohan was born to play the heroine. I’m pretty happy with the way things worked out.
Amy Poehler had some tricks up her shirt. . .
Her bra was apparently stuffed with cocktail wieners. No joke. This was a clever ploy to get her canine co-star to engage in some, uh, physical comedy. “It was very effective,” says McAdams. “She was such a pro through it. She’s trying to do her lines and being so professional, and this dog is chomping on her fake boob. I’ll never forget that.”
