This “Mean Girls” deleted scene was just unearthed, and the fact that it was cut is a girl crime

As the wise sage Janis Ian once said in Mean Girls, “There are two kinds of evil people in this world. Those who do evil stuff and those who see evil stuff being done and don’t try to stop it.” In the case of a just-unearthed deleted clip from Mean Girls, Damian is technically the evil one, Cady’s the one who doesn’t try to stop it, and Regina George is pretty much evil either way.

Everybody’s favorite too-real story of high school lady drama has been back in the headlines a lot lately. Storybook cosmetics dropped a so fetch Burn Book-style makeup palette last month and D.C. previews for the upcoming Mean Girls Broadway musical are getting rave reviews. So we were basically already prepping our Wednesday pink outfits when we came across this hilarious forgotten clip that never made it to the movie’s final cut.

The cafeteria scene, which Refinery29 rediscovered, shows Damian (Daniel Franzese) stealthily unscrewing some lunch table hardware.

Plus, Cady (Lindsay Lohan) presumably setting up Regina (Rachel McAdams) for an ice cream sundae and/or whipped cream-topped jello bomb. Things get off track, though, when Aaron Samuels (Jonathan Bennett) shows up, distracting Regina, and giving Karen (Amanda Seyfried) time to sit at the booby-trapped table instead. Cue heartless Regina laughing at her friend’s misfortune and a big mess all over Karen’s perfectly put together outfit.

We’re not sure if this scene was meant to come before Glen Coco’s candygram cracked Gretchen Wieners or after Cady, Janis, and Damian made Regina’s face smell like a foot, but as it involves scheming against the queen bee, we’d guess it was supposed to be somewhere in there. As much as we would have liked to have seen more of Karen’s wide-eyed stares, Cady being awkward, and Regina’s all-around terribleness, it’s probably for the best that they left this part out. After all, when you’re talking about a cinematic masterpiece like Mean Girls, changing even one detail would totally not be grool.
