Matthew McConaughey describing how he fell for his wife is basically a romance novel
Matthew McConaughey is an intense guy. He expertly takes on dramatic roles, weaves metaphors with conviction, and generally has a way of commanding our attention, whether he’s accepting an award or singing the praises of his Lincoln Town Car. So when we heard him recall the story of how he met his wife Camila Alves, we weren’t surprised that it read like a best-selling romance novel.
McConaughey and Alves have been together for almost 10 years and have three beautiful children together. It all started at a club in L.A. back in 2006. McConaughey was there with friends, and finding love was the last thing on his mind. But then, there was Camila.
“Out of the corner of my eye, this sort of aqua-green figure went floating across the frame about 20 feet in front of me,” he recalled to People. “My eye went up and I remember what came out of my mouth. I didn’t say ‘Who is that?’ I went, ‘What is that?’”
It’s a story straight out of a fairytale. The most climactic chapter in a romance novel. The thing that rom-coms are made of. And McConaughey makes it sound like absolute magic.
“As I was trying to get that’s attention across the room, I went in my head, ‘This is not the kind of woman you call over across the room, McConaughey. Get your ass out of your chair and go get her.’ Which I did,” he said. “We went on our first date three nights later and I knew then … I’ve been wanting to go on a date with her for the last nine years and not with anybody else.”
Love. Love. LOVE. Fairytales do come true!
