Two of Your Favorite ’90s Stars Just Made Their Relationship Instagram Official
This is what happens when 'Boy Meets World' and 'Waterfalls' collide.
If you’ve been craving some ’90s nostalgia in the form of retro entertainment stars going public with their relationship status, you’re in for a treat. Matthew Lawrence, of Boy Meets World and Mrs. Doubtfire fame, and Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas, who puts the “C” in the essential ’90s R&B group TLC, are officially dating.
Chilli’s reps have told various news outlets that things are going well, with TMZ reporting that the two started dating “just before Thanksgiving” and have already spent Christmas together. The relationship is so exclusive that Lawrence has already met Chilli’s family as well.
The TLC singer’s rep also revealed to E! News that the couple “are very happy,” which is great to hear, because we know how she feels about scrubs.

Thomas’s music career spanned much of the 1990s as a member of TLC, with hits like “Waterfalls” and “Creep.” She was given the nickname of Chilli by Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes, an original member of the group who tragically passed away in 2002. Thomas and remaining member Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins still collaborate on music and events today.
Lawrence comes from a line of talented siblings including his older brother, 90s heartthrob Joey Lawrence, from hits such as Blossom, and younger brother Andrew Lawrence, who voiced the character of T.J. on the animated classic Recess. All three brothers starred in their own late-’90s sitcom, Brotherly Love.
How the two met has not yet been revealed, but it seems that they’ve known each other for quite some time. The two were photographed on vacation together in Hawaii this past August, but stated they were “just friends.”
“TLC had a show in Hawaii and has been touring most of the summer,” Thomas’s rep told the public. “There was a group that went to the beach…Chilli simply wanted to get some sun after being on planes and tour buses for the last few weeks.”
The announcement of their relationship comes shortly after Lawrence and his now-ex-wife Cheryl Burke officially became divorced.
“That was fast…” the Dancing With the Stars dancer posted on her Instagram Story from Jan. 3, 2023. Page Six reports that the couple had been divorced for less than four months. Previously, Burke and Lawrence had been married for three years; it’s assumed that they met in 2006 while older brother Joey was a contestant on Dancing with the Stars, although Joey’s dance partner was Edyta Śliwińska at the time.
While Burke seems to be getting through the divorce as well as she can be, the new couple broke the news of their relationship on New Year’s Eve via Instagram.
Thomas and Lawrence both shared a video of themselves dancing to A-ha’s “Take On Me” in matching pajamas (so cliche) with “#NewYearsShenanigans #OnesieGang #WeCute” in the caption.
As one final added splash of nostalgia, former Boy Meets World co-star Danielle Fishel left a comment on Lawrence’s post: “This makes me very happy!!”
