This 7-year-old girl pulled a massive sword out of a lake, with a King Arthur twist

The era of the shero is upon us. And no, this is not just the stuff of legends or Wonder Woman. In this day and age, women and girls can be who they want to be, and that absolutely includes being the actual stuff of Arthurian legends. Case in point: 7-year-old Matilda Jones, whose family was vacationing in Cornwall, Britain when she pulled a 4-foot sword out of Dozmary Pool. According to legend, this is the same lake that King Arthur threw his sword Excalibur into after being mortally wounded in battle.

The best part is that Matilda’s father had just been telling her the legend of Arthur when she saw the sword.

According to Cosmopolitan, Paul Jones, Matilda’s father, said,

"She was only waist-deep when she said she could see a sword. I told her not to be silly and it was probably a bit of fencing, but when I looked down I realized it was a sword. It was just there laying flat on the bottom of the lake."

Although the piece itself doesn’t seem particularly old — the theory is that it may have been part of a movie set — we can’t help but think that there’s something more to this occurrence than what meets the eye. It has to be significant that it was Matilda who saw it, right?

There’s some magic in the air, and we’re dying to know more.

The sword even looks like Excalibur, which really makes us think. Is Matilda the magical heroine we’ve been waiting for? Even if she isn’t, we love that she reminds us that girls run the world.
