The Maryland school shooter is reportedly dead, and here’s what we know about his victims
There has been another school shooting. This morning, March 20th, a gunman opened fire at Great Mills High School in Maryland. And in the most recent update, it has been confirmed that the shooter is dead and two students have been hospitalized for injuries.
St. Mary’s County Sheriff Tim Cameron told CNN that the shooter has been pronounced dead. In a statement, Cameron said that a school resource officer traded fire with the shooter, resulting in the gunman’s injury. The resource officer was unharmed. Cameron stated that the shooter was a male student.
Cameron told NBC Washington that the gunman wounded a female student and a male student. The sheriff said that the female student was in critical condition and the male student was stable.
Cameron said that it’s unclear if the victims had any connection to the shooter.
"In my mind, it's a school shooting in the classical sense, but the investigation will have to determine if there was any connection between the shooter and the victims," he said in a statement to the Washington Post.
St. Mary’s County Public School officials tweeted that the shooting has been contained and that parents should pick their students up from nearby Leonardtown High School.
