Here’s a quick refresher on the “Mary Poppins Returns” cast, in case you’ve forgotten that it’s splendid
The Oscars are officially here — but one of the most exciting things to happen thus far had nothing to do with the awards show itself. While Jimmy Kimmel’s monologue had us laughing out loud and Mary J. Blige blew us away with her performance of “Mighty River” — we shed our very first tears of the evening for the incredible teaser for Disney’s Mary Poppins Returns.
The short trailer didn’t give much away plot-wise, but it did give us our very real first glimpse at the titular beloved nanny reuniting with her former charges, Michael and Jane Banks. The film follows Mary Poppins, now played by Emily Blunt, as she returns to bring new life to the Banks family, which is mourning the loss of Michael’s wife — leaving him and Jane to raise his three children.
The teaser also gave us a look at Lin-Manuel Miranda as Jack — the lamplighter taking on the Bert-esque role for the sequel — in an homage to the iconic 1964 film. While Miranda doesn’t say anything, he’s flying a kite when he sees Mary Poppins emerge from the cloud. It was practically perfect in every way!
