Prepare to freak COMPLETELY out at this “Mary Poppins” casting rumor

This is some supercalifragilisticexpialidocious news. As if we weren’t excited enough for Mary Poppins Returns, Disney’s sequel to the 1964 classic Mary Poppins starring Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke, there’s some major casting news that we’re having a little trouble digesting.

Yup, the legendary actress and songstress is rumored to appear in the Mary Poppins sequel as Mary’s “eccentric cousin” Topsy, reports Movie Pilot. How practically perfect in every way!

In case you haven’t been paying attention, the movie will also star the lovely Emily Blunt as Mary herself, as well as Hamilton‘s Lin-Manuel Miranda as the new character Jack the Lamplighter. Talk about an all-star cast!

This means Meryl will resume her place besides Emily Blunt on the big screen — her co-star from Into the Woods and The Devil Wears Prada — and we can’t wait to seen the chemistry between these two talented actresses once again.

The script is set in Depression-era London, and will be based on the eight-book Mary Poppins series by writer P.L. Travers. In movie land, several years have passed since the first film, and Michael and Jane Banks are all grown up — Michael even has some children of his own now. The music is coming from composer Marc Shaiman, who has written catchy tunes for movies like Hairspray and The Addams Family.

The release date isn’t until December 25, 2018, so we’ll have to hold out before this gem of a musical hits the big screen. Until then, we’ll be watching the OG version over and over.
