Saluting Mary Keitany, who won the NYC marathon for the women

Yesterday morning, what was the first thing you did? Hop in the shower? Have some coffee? Relish that one extra hour we got on the clocks? Well, get ready to be amazed, because while you were lounging on your Sunday morning, Mary Keitany was winning the New York City marathon.

Yup, that’s right! While some of us were nursing our Halloween candy hangovers, some of the most determined runners in the world were racing through the streets of NYC. FYI: New York’s is the largest marathon in the world, drawing competitors from around the globe to run. With over 50,000 participants each year, it’s an epic and massive race.

And this year’s winner for the women, Mary Keitany, knows that from experience. This isn’t her first time in the race, it’s not even her first time being crowned the female winner. She won last year’s marathon, too! This year she finished the 26.2 mile race in just 2 hours 24 minutes and 25 seconds, according to the New York Times. Keitany, who hails from Kenya, finished a full minute before the second place female finisher, Ethiopia’s Aselefech Mergia.

Congratulations, Mary, and to everyone who finished the marathon. We hope you had a wonderful Monday or recovery, movies, and delicious carbo-loaded treats.
