The trailer for Amy Sherman-Palladino’s “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” is here, and there are so many “Gilmore Girls” parallels

We have amazing news for fans of Amy Sherman-Palladino and her fast-talkin’, fascinating heroines. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel just debuted its first trailer and announced a premiere date — November 29th. Last year, we got Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life around Thanksgiving. This year, we get The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Amy Sherman-Palladino is quickly making Turkey Day our favorite holiday!

And while we’re super excited for Mrs. Maisel in its own right, we’re extra excited because of all the ways it reminds us of Gilmore Girls. After all, many of us called Stars Hollow home for so many years so it’s nice to see that Amy Sherman-Palladino has carried over some great things from the past series into her new one — as seen in the newly released trailer.

Take, for example, Alex Borstein.

The hilarious harp-player Drella and personal stylist Miss Celine from Gilmore Girls, now turned lead in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel? Yes, please.

And of course, the characters in Amy’s new show are equally sharp-witted and quick-talking.

Gilmore Girls scripts were infamously around 20 pages longer than the average network show, and we’re excited to see a return to Amy’s unique style of chat.

Plus, we’re definitely getting another complicated family, complete with awkward formal dinners.

As we saw in the pilot of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, which is already available on Amazon, Midge has a complicated relationship with her parents…similar to another leading lady we know, cough.

They have high expectations of her, and their image of what her life should look like is a little more traditional than what Midge has in mind for herself. Sound familiar?

There’s also one of our absolute favorite things about Amy’s shows: the complex, dynamic women whom they center around.

We feel pretty confident that Midge is going to follow in the footsteps of her illustrious forebears — Lorelai Gilmore and Michelle Simms, to start — to steal our hearts away with her cleverness, quirkiness, and yes, human flaws.

But while Mrs. Maisel looks like it’ll explore the themes and dynamics we know and love from ASP’s work, it’s definitely something new for the Gilmore Girls creator.

It’s a period piece, it’s for Amazon streaming, and it seems a bit raunchier. So, like, Lorelai Gilmore for HBO. See for yourself, and check out the Season 1 trailer here:
